Annual Members Meeting

We are happy to announce that we will be having our Annual Meeting of Members (formerly called “Presidents Meeting”) on Saturday, October 17, 2015, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Church on the Mall in Plymouth Meeting. The meeting provides a great opportunity to meet and interact with fellow Vincentians and to learn more about some changes for the coming year. We’re excited to be able to have the facilities at the Church-on-the-Mall since it is relatively centrally located, very near a Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange (Norristown exit) and has ample parking.

To learn more about the Church on the Mall, please open this link.

The meeting will be kept fairly short so that more people will be able to attend, but we will be including important content that should prove valuable to nearly every Vincentian in the five-county Archdiocesan Council area. More information will be posted here as it becomes available. We look forward to seeing as many Vincentians as possible that day.

Bridges Out of Poverty Workshops

Bridges Out of Poverty is an approach to better understand persons of all walks of life and how they interact with one another. The Workshops sponsored by The Society of St Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia include a review of the material presented by the joint effort of Aha! Process and the National Council of the United States of America for the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

The Workshop serves not as an all-inclusive training session but presents participants with an overview into the origins of poverty-like circumstances and some of the obstacles of breaking out of the confinement that poverty brings with it.

The next session will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, Royersford (near the Montgomery/Chester County border), PA, on Saturday, June 27, 2015, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Sign up via this link. You can check out more information about Sacred Heart Parish (and how to get there) via this link.

Later this summer, on August 1, 2015, SVDP-Philadelphia will sponsor another session at St Katherine of Siena Parish, Northeast Philadelphia, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can sign up for the session via this link. You can get more information (and directions to) St Katherine Parish via this link.

We look forward to seeing you at either session.

Orientación Ozanam

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia is excited to be hosting an Orientación Ozanam at Holy Innocents Parish, 1337 E. Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124, on Saturday, November 1, 2014, beginning at 8:30 am and ending at 4:00 pm. Presenting the sessions for SVDP-Phila will be Margarita Galindo, Vice President for Hispanic Involvement for the National Council of the United States, and Rev. Mr. Emilio Ferrer-Soto, deacon for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Orientación Ozanam is the version of the Ozanam Orientation in Spanish. Ozanam Orientation is a treasure-filled presentation for members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul in which they learn the rich history of the Society’s founders and key elements that lead us to better serve people in need through person-to-person interaction, most often in their own homes. The Society’s founders thought it was vital that its members understand the gospel foundations for what they do and to appreciate the fellowship witnessed in the first disciples, so the orientation helps its members grow through spirituality and friendship into a life of service.

New location

The Society of St Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia has moved to its new location in Montgomery County, 3004 Keenwood Road, East Norriton Township, just off West Germantown Pike. SVDP Mural 2012

For the past three summers, ten high school students from Brooklyn and several faculty members have been volunteering their time in the Philadelphia area.  The student group stays at the St. Vincent de Paul Young Adult Center in Germantown under the guidance and direction of Sister Pat Evanick DC and Father Bill Allegreto CM, who coordinate several different service or outreach project in the community.

This year one of the projects was to paint a mural on the main entrance of the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store onLuzerne Avenue.  The students, who attend St. Edmund Prep HS worked with art teacher, Phil Fama to create an abstract mural which was designed to bring color and life to an otherwise industrial looking building.

Collaborating on this project were:  Jessica Caiazzo, Olivia DiGiulio, Amanda Hernandez, Eileen Makak, Jessica Pinto, Alex Samosiuk, Mica Severe and faculty member Marie Geraci.
